Choosing the right curriculum for your family can be rather daunting. There are so many different types of curricula from which to choose. Homeschoolers in Japan are welcome to contact the SSS office for help in making choices. We don’t know everything about all the thousands of materials available, however, we try to keep current on as much as we can.
If you are able to come into the office, we can show you various sample curricula and provide you with ordering information. If you are not able to come to the office, we are still happy to talk to you over the phone giving you information about your options. There is no one curriculum that works well for everyone, but there are many interesting options available.
For Sale
We keep some curricula in stock for resale in the SSS office. This is limited, since we are not a store. People often come to the office with immediate needs, so we buy some especially useful books to have on hand. Though our stock varies, we usually carry:
MCP (Modern Curriculum Press) Phonics
Reading Comprehension in Varied Subject Matter
Explode the Code reading program
D’Nealian handwriting
Writing Skills
Daily Grams
Spelling workbooks
Test Prep
Wordly Wise 3000
Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons
Everyday Math Skills Link (math review book to practice doing math in English)
Swap Shop
Sometimes SSS families have curricula they no longer need. If you want to resell textbooks, we are happy to help you do that. You have two options. You may post your list of books and the amounts you are selling them for on the SSS Family website. People will contact you directly if they are interested in the books.
The second option is to bring the textbooks to SSS with tags on them. If we handle the books, SSS keeps a 25% commission. If the books have not sold within one year, you should pick them up or they will become the property of SSS. Some families prefer to donate their books to SSS. We will gladly keep what we can use and give away the rest.
Giveaways
The hallway outside the SSS office is our giveaway area. Reading books and curricula line the hallways on shelves. When you are visiting the SSS office, please help yourself to any of these books. Many books are donated to SSS each year. The freebie books are a mixture of mediocre literature and real gems! If there is anything obviously objectionable, we throw it away. However, we do not have time to go through every book we give away, therefore we do not give a blanket endorsement to the books on the freebie shelves.
